There are lots of not-so-great savings apps. Upside isn’t one of them.

I’ll clean this post up later, but for now I just wanted to get the info out there. We’ve just completed traveling across the midwest (left quite a bit early to avoid the crazy storm going on). In an effort to save money on gas, a friend shared the Upside app with us prior to traveling.

Upside allows you to choose a gas station offering discounts on gas and then save money on every purchase (that gets credited back to you). Check-in was super easy, and their method just changed over the weekend. Most stops required no extra work from me to get a discount.

I wanted to try it first before posting anything, but it works great. It seems the better offers are closer to the big cities, where there is more competition. Near Grand Rapids, MI, we saved around $0.22 cents a gallon on our purchase.

There are a lot of janky apps out there, but Upside is definitely worth checking out. The coupon CHET9825 will also get you an additional $0.15 cents off your first fill up. And you’ll get your own coupon to share. Hope it saves you some money!
