First things first – let’s thank Tony & Chelsea Northrup for taking the time to create the video above.

Using it, I passed the Part 107. I’d offer that step #1 is to watch the video in it’s entirety. And carve out some time to watch it a few more times.

To begin, this specific test is actually called the FAA Unmanned Aircraft General – Small (sUAG) test.

Below are a few additional resources I used when preparing for this test:

UAG – Unmanned Aircraft General PDF – This is the FAA’s recommended practice materials and info.

Free Part 107 Test Study Guide For FAA Remote Pilot Airmen Certificate – I’m a big fan of Jonathan Rupprecht’s Drone Law blog and this study guide.

Airman Testing Knowledge Supplement PDF (Book) – When you actually test, you will be given one of these by the test provider as a reference. You cannot bring your own, and mine was pretty old. Chad Monroe from drivethelightning.com recommends you bring along with you some cheap reading glasses to help. (He was right.)

Part 107 Practice Test – PSI Test Centers, where I took my test, offers practice tests. After reviewing the information a few times, try the test. You need a 70 or better score to pass.

It may be worth considering a paid course.

Tony’s video is excellent, but it is a quick pass through information you should be studying and know very well.

There are a few paid courses out there that are great, I recommend Pilot Institute’s Part 107 course. I haven’t taken it, but Shawn at Sculpted Media raves about how well taught this course is. It’s a bit more robust than YouTube’s offerings, containing 15 hours of videos and 2 practice tests.

Even though I’ve passed and have my license, I am considering going back through this course myself. It is also offered on Udemy.com at times for a discount.

That’s it! As I remember resources, I’ll post them here. If you’re still on the fence between getting your Part 107 certification or just sticking with the recreational use TRUST certification, check out this post.
